Blended, the New Norm: Using an Online Discussion Platform to Connect Online and In-person Learning
While teaching hybrid or hyflex, both live and online sessions present opportunities for connecting and creating.

This presentation introduces a framework and tool to empower students to shape their learning experiences, build new knowledge, and continue learning in-class and online.
Learning Objectives
Explain the importance of creating new knowledge using in-class conversations & online discussions.
Use a framework to plan for connections between online and live sessions.
Practice using a tool to transform online discussions.

Patrick Dempsey, Director of the Office of Digital Teaching and Learning, Loyola University Maryland
Patrick is the Director of the Office of Digital Teaching and Learning at Loyola University Maryland. He earned his Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Liberty University and holds an M.B.A. in Organizational Management, M.Div. in Professional Ministries, and M.A. in Pastoral Counseling. He has published and presented widely on engaging faculty in instructional design, communities of inquiry and transformative learning, and quality assurance in online classes. His forthcoming title Creating Transformative Online Communities in Higher Education (Routledge) will be released in June, 2021.
