To support families who are sheltering in place, we have been offering a live interactive storytime program for young children since April, delivered via Zoom video conferencing. During the 30-minute programs, we read an illustrated children's storybook related to astronomy, space, or science; try an activity or observation from home; and answer questions from the participating children. We prioritize diverse characters and engaging stories when choosing books. We delivered the programs weekly from April into June, and are now offering the program monthly. On average, 35 families attend each session, and the majority of children ranging from pre-K to early elementary ages. There are several children who are frequent repeat customers, and even one family who has three generations participate together: a child and his mother, his aunt, and his grandmother all join from different locations in order to be able to see each other and share a fun experience during this time when they are physically separated due to the pandemic. We will share highlights, best practices, and lessons learned.
