Engaging More Effectively with the Educational Ecosystem
This talk introduces a comprehensive review of evidence-based practices for working in all aspects of astronomy education. We have written a review article for the Annual Review of Astronomy and Astrophysics that summarizes much of the relevant research on astronomy education and its basis in science education research in general. The article is titled "Astronomers Engaging with the Education Ecosystem: A Best-Evidence Synthesis." We highlight the many different roles that amateur and professional astronomers and other astronomy educators can play as they work to increase the quality and quantity of astronomy's educational experiences. We also will provide some simple advice on how novices working with various parts of the educational system can be most effective and can avoid frustration and cavitation. We describe other resources we have created to address the creation of effective educational projects and to help astronomy research centers find appropriate roles that can aid their local communities.
