spaceEU: Fostering a Young and Inclusive Space Community
The spaceEU project uses the excitement and challenges of space to implement an exciting Outreach and Education programme to capture the interest of young people in STEAM and encourage them to choose space-related careers. spaceEU aims to inspire and broaden young people's minds, develop a sense of European and global citizenship and build long-term partnerships between people from different cultural backgrounds and countries. Running from December 2018 to November 2020, spaceEU involves a network of 12 partners in 11 European countries.

With a special focus on girls and underrepresented communities, one of the project's main activities was the development of an online Toolkit composed by an exhibition, which looks into how space exploration has been an intrinsic part of our lives, and a set of Educational and Outreach activities. These activities encourage and help schools, youth centers, museums, universities, NGOs and informal learning spaces to bring together students, families, space professionals, their communities and others to engage them with the wonders of space. The activities have been implemented in 10 European countries by spaceEU nodes, which had to adapt their efforts to the challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

spaceEU also includes support for educators through workshops - co-created with Teacher Training Institutions - and a MOOC to teach space-related topics with a focus on climate change.

Furthermore, spaceEU worked with national and European policy-makers to advocate for the importance of space and STEAM education and public engagement with space.

Finally, an important objective of spaceEU was a rigorous evaluation of the project's impact and sharing lessons learnt for use in future creative projects in space education and outreach.

In this talk, we will present an overview of the project's activities and resources and Toolkit, discuss main outcomes and the project's evaluation findings and will share lessons learnt and follow-up initiatives.
